The Department runs a programme that leads to the award of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Employment Relations and Human Resources Management (ER& HRM). The programme is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and then deepen the students’ grasp of basic knowledge, attitude and skills in the various competence domains of Human Resource Management as well as Employment Relations and their application within and across contexts. It also introduces them to the techniques and tools of research, develops in them the spirit of enquiry and generally prepares them to face challenges and solve problems in the field of Employment Relations and Human Resources Management.
Philosophy and Objectives of the Programme
6.2.1 Programme Philosophy
The management programme is designed to acquaint our graduates with relevant theories as well as equip them with the requisite knowledge, abilities and skills in Human Resources Management and Employment Relations, that empowers them to surmount real world challenges as they maximise the human in the workplace. In order to achieve this, the programme also utilises case study analysis to practicalize the application of theories, concepts and frameworks to real life scenarios. This is done in consideration of the reality that course content and curriculum should be a reflection of real-life situations and issues, so students need to be prepared for a life outside the classroom.
6.2.2 Objectives of the Programme
The objectives of the programme are to:
- To provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems related to the management of people at work in industrial, commercial, public and other human organizations.
- To equip students with the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining and solving problems as well as training in decision-making.
- To develop leadership and interpersonal relations skills in managing people and
- To train students in the principle and techniques of organizational management and ensure effective management of people.

6.4 Admission Requirements
- Admission by Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Utme)
Admission into the Bachelor of Science degree in Employment Relations and Human Resources Management (ER&HRM) is normally through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Candidates must satisfy the University as well as the Faculty/Departmental requirements.
A.1 University Requirements
Admission through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
The minimum admission requirement for first year of a Bachelor’s Degree Programme shall be five (5) subjects (including English Language, Economics and Mathematics) obtained at the credit level at the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level, West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Exanimation Council (NECO), or their equivalents, in NOT MORE THAN TWO (2) SITTINGS. Candidates should also pass the Post UTME Screening Test. Such candidates shall be admitted into 100 LEVEL (1) of the degree programme.
In addition, Faculty and Departmental requirement(s) shall be satisfied, with respect to O’ level/UTME subject combinations. Furthermore, students must obtain:
- An acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), not below the national minimum cut-off point for universities for the particular year in question.
- An acceptable weighted average score from the JAMB and the University screening exercise, as determined by the University on yearly basis.
A.2 Admission by Direct Entry
(a) Admission to Year II of degree programme – 3 Year Programme
Candidates with OND in either Banking and Finance, Marketing, Business Administration or Accounting with a minimum pass level of Upper Credit, plus school certificate/GCE ‘O’ level credit pass (including English Language, Mathematics and Economics) in three (3) other relevant subjects are eligible for admission into Year II of the degree programme. Candidates with a Degree or HND not relevant to the programme, could also be admitted into the year II of the programme provided they passed at the Upper Credit Level. In addition to the above such candidates must also satisfy the UME entry requirements.
(b) Admission to Year III of degree Programme-2 Year Programme
Candidates with HND in Banking, Business Administration, or Accounting with a minimum of Lower Credit level plus school certificate/GCE ‘O’ level credit pass (including English Language, Mathematics and Economics) and two (2) other relevant subjects are eligible for admission to Year III of the relevant degree programme.
6.4.1 Faculty/Departmental Requirements
B.1 Admission through UME
Credit – level pass at the Senior School Certificate (SSC), NECO examinations or equivalent pass at the GCE ‘O’ level Examination in a minimum of five subjects including Mathematics, English Language and Economics in not more than two sittings. The other subjects shall include three relevant social science subjects.
B.2 Admission to Year II of the degree programme
Candidates with OND in either Banking and Finance, Marketing, Business Administration or Accounting with a minimum pass level of Upper Credit, plus school certificate/GCE ‘O’ level credit pass (including English Language and Mathematics) in two (2) other three relevant subjects are eligible for admission into Year II of the degree programme. Candidates with a Degree or HND not relevant to the programme, could also be admitted into the year II of the programme provided they passed at the Upper Credit Level. In addition to the above such candidates must also satisfy the UTME entry requirements.
B.3 Admission to Year III of the Degree Programme
Candidates who possess the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration or Management are eligible for admission into the third year of the programme, provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME.
